According to Deep Tide TechFlow on October 3, citing Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's five major commercial banks have all been targeted by suspected AI-driven cyberattacks, with customer information leaks reported at three of them. This marks the first time such a simultaneous attack has occurred in South Korea's financial sector.
Reportedly, BNK Busan Bank experienced a data breach caused by the cyberattack, resulting in the personal information of 11 outsourced employees being leaked. KB Kookmin Bank reported that information of 119 customers was compromised due to the attack, while Hana Bank disclosed that information of 89 customers was leaked.
Prior to this, Shinhan Bank suffered a similar cyberattack, leading to the leakage of information for approximately 25,000 customers. Woori Bank and NH NongHyup Bank also faced similar hacking attempts, but their intrusion prevention systems successfully intercepted the attacks, and no information leaks have been detected so far.
