[EU Discusses Releasing Diesel Reserves; France Proposes Europe to Release 50 Million Barrels of Diesel and IEA Member States to Release 50 Million Barrels of Crude Oil] According to a report by Golden Finance, on October 2, Reuters reported that a source familiar with the discussion details stated on Friday that EU countries discussed a proposal by France to release more diesel reserves in response to U.S. pressure on European countries to increase supply. During Friday's conference call, EU governments discussed France's plan for European countries to release 50 million barrels of diesel reserves, while International Energy Agency (IEA) member states would release 50 million barrels of crude oil. The discussions among countries suggested that any agreement to further release diesel reserves should include a commitment from the U.S. to avoid unilaterally imposing a diesel export ban. Leaders of G7 member states may hold a conference call on Friday afternoon to discuss the next steps. Additionally, according to the French presidential office, French President Macron had phone conversations last night with U.S. President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Carney. During the calls, Macron emphasized the need for joint efforts to address rising fuel prices and ensure the supply of refined oil products. France plans to hold a conference call with G7 leaders.
