[Processed Over $17 Billion in Transactions, A7 Network Designated as a Significant Transnational Criminal Organization by the U.S. Treasury] Odaily Planet Daily News – On October 1, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that its 'economic sanctions operation' has taken action against A7 Network, designating it as a 'significant transnational criminal organization.' The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) of the U.S. Treasury plans to prohibit fund transfers involving A7 Network sub-agents and requires financial institutions to identify and report related suspicious transactions. The U.S. Treasury stated that A7 Network is a 'shadow banking network' linked to Russia and exploited by Iran to evade sanctions. It disguises sanctioned or illicit fund flows as legitimate commercial activities through third-party companies, falsified trade documents, fake import/export records, and misleading product descriptions. Investigations revealed that A7 Network sub-agents processed over $17 billion in transactions between January 2025 and June 2026. A7 Network claims that as of January 2026, it processes over 2,000 transactions daily, with a total transaction volume exceeding 7.5 trillion rubles, approximately $91.5 billion. The U.S. Treasury stated that the network has been utilized by entities such as the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to facilitate financial flows for activities like Iranian oil sales and weapons procurement. One of its sub-agents reportedly conducted transactions with entities involved in Iran's 'shadow fleet.' A7 Network is also accused of having ties to the Iranian digital asset trading platform Nobitex and assisting in the movement of funds related to North Korean hacking attacks on cryptocurrency trading platforms. The announcement also mentioned the ruble-backed token A7A5 Token issued by Old Vector LLC. The U.S. Treasury stated that this token is used by A7 Network to evade sanctions and to help sanctioned infrastructure providers profit through token circulation.
