[U.S. Congressional Research Service: Scope of Banks' Crypto Activities May Be Defined by Legislation and Regulation] The U.S. Congressional Research Service (CRS) released a report titled *Crypto and Bank-Permissible Activities* on September 30, stating that U.S. banks engaging in crypto-related activities must meet two criteria: whether the activities fall under or are ancillary to 'banking operations,' and whether they impact the safety and soundness of the bank. The report noted that since 2017, banking regulators have adjusted crypto policies multiple times in line with changes in government administration. Congress could clarify the permissibility of such activities through legislation, prohibit them outright, continue to grant discretion to regulatory agencies, or adopt a combination of these approaches. The report also highlighted differences between the House and Senate versions of the *CLARITY Act* regarding the scope of authorization for banks' crypto activities. The Senate version proposes allowing banks to engage in 11 types of crypto-related activities.
