[Illinois Agrees to Delay Crypto Tax by Six Months to July 1, Pending Court Approval]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on October 1, the Illinois state government reached an agreement with The Digital Chamber and the Illinois Blockchain Association to delay the implementation of the 0.2% crypto tax, originally set to take effect on January 1, 2027, by six months to July 1. This postponement motion still requires approval from a state circuit court judge.
In June of this year, the state passed the Digital Asset Tax Act, which imposes a 0.2% tax on all crypto transactions and asset custody activities for institutions with annual revenues exceeding $100,000. If the court approves the delay, both parties will temporarily suspend emergency injunction requests and instead focus on substantive hearings regarding the law's 'compliance, enforceability, and constitutionality.'
Industry groups argue that the law is unconstitutional and violates the federal Internet Tax Freedom Act, and they are seeking to permanently repeal the tax through litigation. (CoinDesk)
