@cwdegnan joins Cognition as CRO: Chief Revenue Officer. He was Snowflake's first salesperson. Back in November 2013, the company was still in stealth mode with no website. He accepted a cash offer that was about half of what he could have gotten elsewhere, and his external title was just Sales Director. He later joked that his 25-year-old self would have punched his 40-year-old self for taking that deal. He stayed for 11 and a half years, working under four different CEOs, including Frank Slootman. Eventually, he was promoted to CRO. In 2020, Snowflake went public. Bloomberg reported that on December 4 of that year, its market cap crossed $100 billion for the first time. In March 2025, he announced his resignation. The company’s CEO stated that he had grown revenue from zero to $3.4 billion in the previous fiscal year. Mike Gannon succeeded him. Degnan stayed until May to ensure a smooth transition before leaving. Afterward, he became a partner at RPT, served as a sales advisor at ICONIQ, and acted as a board advisor for a programming agent company called Factory. On September 30, 2026, he announced on X and LinkedIn that he was joining Cognition as CRO to sell Devin. Reports suggest Cognition’s valuation this month is around $48 billion, though this is a media estimate and not an official figure. On the same day, another incident occurred. Factory’s CEO posted that Degnan had been removed from his advisory role: while still attending board meetings, he had already been in talks with Cognition and even inquired about product roadmaps. Degnan replied, saying he had resigned on Monday and that Factory had tried to hire him full-time. He also stated that he hadn’t disclosed any confidential information and that Cognition hadn’t asked for any. Neither side has released emails, so these are just parallel accounts.
