[California Governor Newsom Signs Bill Prohibiting the Use of AI to Monitor Employees' Brain Activity] Golden Finance reports that on October 1, California Governor Gavin Newsom (Democrat) signed a bill on Wednesday prohibiting California businesses from collecting employees' brain activity data or using AI-driven monitoring tools to infer employees' emotional states. The bill (AB 1883) restricts employers' use of various systems, including video and audio surveillance, continuous work hour trackers, geolocation, and electromagnetic tracking. If these systems use artificial intelligence to collect neural data or identify employees' emotions, they will be strictly regulated. The new law stipulates that each violation may result in a civil penalty of up to $500, with enforcement carried out by the state labor commissioner and public prosecutors. (Jin10)
