The wealthiest people in the United States are not just widening the gap with ordinary Americans. As the stock market boom has added trillions of dollars to their net worth, the richest are even pulling further ahead of other affluent Americans. According to the latest data from the Federal Reserve, the total wealth owned by the top 0.1% of Americans has more than doubled since the end of 2019. Federal Reserve data shows that as of the end of June this year, during this period, the total wealth of the wealthiest Americans increased by $14.5 trillion, most of which (about $10 trillion) came from the appreciation of stocks and mutual funds. This 0.1% of the population now controls approximately $28 trillion in wealth, accounting for about 15% of the total U.S. wealth (nearly $186 trillion). Within this group, the average wealth per household exceeds $200 million.
