The CEO of a $30 billion publicly traded company actually resigned to join Meta and take charge of its newly established enterprise platform business. Looks like Zuckerberg is determined to break into the enterprise market. Zuckerberg announced that MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai is joining Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, leading the newly formed Meta Enterprise Platform and reporting directly to Zuckerberg. The goal of Meta Enterprise Platform is to package and deliver Meta’s existing AI models, agents, infrastructure, and tools to enterprises and developers. Initial products include the Muse Agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code, and more. Desai’s career spans enterprise software, AI infrastructure, and cloud services. Before joining MongoDB, he served as Head of Product and Engineering at Cloudflare and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, where he held roles such as President and COO. He brings deep enterprise client relationships and extensive experience in product commercialization. It seems Desai was drawn to the strategic importance of the Meta Enterprise Platform and the immense potential of the enterprise AI space. His background aligns perfectly with the demands of this role. Desai’s move: From Meta’s perspective, they’ve brought in a “veteran” to lead their enterprise AI business. From Desai’s perspective, he’s gained a rare opportunity to build an enterprise-level business within a consumer AI giant. The enterprise platform business is likely to become Meta’s next growth driver. Let’s see when Meta starts breaking out enterprise platform revenue in its financial reports—that’ll signal the scale of this business line. This raises another question: Because of Desai’s resignation, MongoDB’s stock plunged 20% today. Was it an overreaction? After all, MongoDB’s core revenue driver is its Atlas managed database, and the switching costs for customers to migrate to another database platform are quite high. A CEO change alone typically isn’t enough to trigger massive customer churn. Plus, MongoDB quickly announced a seasoned veteran to take over as CEO.
