Bitget CEO: $350M Hack Likely Linked to North Korean Hackers
On September 24, Bitget discovered unauthorized fund transfers from several hot wallets. Bitget CEO Gracie Chen @GracyBitget stated that the team identified certain IP addresses whose VPN usage patterns matched previous activities of a DPRK-linked organization, leading them to believe the attack is “very likely” connected to North Korean hackers. She also mentioned that the attackers did not gain access to the private keys of Bitget’s hot, warm, or cold wallets but instead breached the exchange’s internal systems and directly transferred funds from there.
Bitget previously announced that its User Protection Fund has exceeded $464 million, and the company claims this fund is sufficient to cover the losses from this incident.
