Robinhood always knows how to stir things up just when the hype around Robinhood Chain starts to cool down. Looks like something big is brewing again.
@RobinhoodCrypto posted a few hours ago: Stock Tokens are about to get an upgrade.
So, what’s Robinhood planning next?
Here’s what we know so far:
1/ The current structure of Robinhood’s tokenized stocks looks like this:
- Issued by the Jersey-based entity RHJ and exists on Robinhood Chain in ERC-20 form;
- Stock Tokens represent exposure to U.S. stock/ETF prices (no shareholder rights, and currently not redeemable 1:1 for actual stocks);
- Can be self-custodied on-chain and used as DeFi assets.
For now, it’s not traditional stock ownership but more like a price-tracking certificate.
2/ On September 17, the SEC approved a time-limited innovation exemption, opening the door for tokenized stocks in the U.S.
@vladtenev immediately followed up: Tokenization is coming to the U.S.
The timing of Robinhood’s teaser post is quite intriguing. On one hand, there’s the gap in Stock Tokens’ rights to be addressed; on the other, the U.S. regulatory window is opening.
Think about it. Really think about it.
