[AI Computing Power Futures Listing Stalled: CFTC Extends Review, CME Unlikely to Launch in October]
According to a report by The Information on September 23, Gold Finance reported that the listing of NVIDIA GPU rental price futures, seen as a significant step toward making AI computing power an investable asset class, is facing obstacles. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) had hoped to launch computing power futures contracts as early as early October, but it is now expected that regulatory approval will not be obtained by then. According to a letter, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which oversees the futures market, is extending its review to further study how such contracts operate and to solicit feedback from a broader range of industry participants. The CFTC noted that while the financial market for computing power could support the development of AI in the U.S., the underlying market is fragmented and opaque.
