Actually, Binance's sudden large-scale investment in Circle, the company behind the compliant stablecoin USDC, is pretty easy to understand.
Right now, a significant portion of new users on the Binance platform are coming in with the intention of buying U.S. stocks. For these people, going through traditional banks or brokerage firms has too high of a barrier.
But if they go through OTC to exchange for stablecoins, and then use stablecoins directly to buy U.S. stocks, it becomes much more convenient.
Currently, Binance's U.S. stock trading business, due to compliance requirements, must use USDC for transactions and exchanges. This has sparked demand for people to first acquire the stablecoin USDC before they can buy and sell U.S. stocks.
Although Binance offers one-click matching—for example, you can place orders using stablecoins like USDT or the platform token BNB—the final transaction path still requires converting to the stablecoin USDC before matching with U.S. stock trades on the platform.
