Why does a project's fundamentals suddenly seem to get 'better and better' after its price starts pumping? After trading for a while, I’ve realized that in the crypto space, many narratives don’t drive price increases—instead, they’re only noticed *after* the price goes up. When a coin is stuck in a long sideways trend, no one cares about team updates, on-chain data, or ecosystem partnerships. But once it doubles in three days, the same info suddenly gets repackaged as a 'revaluation of its true worth.' As the price keeps climbing, research reports, roadmaps, and 10x price targets start popping up, as if the project achieved a technological breakthrough overnight. I used to get caught up in this hype too. Before the pump, I’d barely understand the project. After the pump, the more I researched, the more bullish I became. But in reality, it wasn’t the information that became more convincing—it was the unrealized gains in my portfolio putting a filter on everything. Then, when the price drops, I’d suddenly notice token unlock schedules, competitors, and valuation concerns. It’s like the fundamentals change along with the price chart. The market does price in changes ahead of time, but prices can also create stories in reverse. Truly useful research should clearly outline the core logic and invalidation conditions *before* buying, and distinguish between data that’s already known and changes that genuinely bring in new users, revenue, or capital. If your opinions always shift with your portfolio and the price, that’s not research—you’re just narrating your emotions. Remember: Price pumps can make ordinary information look like groundbreaking news. To judge whether fundamentals have truly improved, focus on what the data shows—not the story the price is trying to tell.
