[Google Fined €403 Million for Violating Location Data Rules] The Irish Data Protection Commission issued a statement on Monday, announcing a €403 million (approximately $463 million) fine against Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, for violating regulations related to its handling of location data in web and app activities as well as location history. This follows complaints filed by several European consumer rights organizations. Deputy Commissioner of the Irish Data Protection Commission, Graham Doyle, stated: 'Due to Google's violations in this area, users may not have been aware that their location data was being used, for example, to influence them through advertisements or to infer their interests, which could also result in users losing control over their personal data.' This is the fourth-largest fine issued by the regulatory body since the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect.
