OpenAI Expected to "Burn Through" Nearly $280 Billion by the End of 2030

According to internal presentation documents cited by the *Financial Times*, OpenAI is expected to "burn through" nearly $280 billion by the end of 2030. The documents reveal that between 2026 and 2030, OpenAI anticipates generating up to $278 billion in negative free cash flow. Although annual revenue is projected to soar from $36 billion this year to $350 billion by 2030, with cumulative revenue reaching $840 billion over the five-year period from 2026 to 2030, the revenue scale will still be insufficient to cover the massive expenses. OpenAI estimates that by the end of 2030, cumulative spending on computing power and infrastructure will reach approximately $856 billion, making it the largest single expenditure. Even though OpenAI completed a $122 billion financing round in March of this year, at the current rate of capital consumption, this funding is expected to be depleted by 2028.
