Owen’s mother, acclaimed photographer Laura Wilson, documented the occasion outside a Los Angeles studio lot. Brooks had recognized the promise of their thirteen-minute Sundance short and offered financial support and guidance to help develop a full-length screenplay. Although Bottle Rocket struggled commercially upon its 1996 release, it eventually gained a devoted cult following and helped launch the careers of Anderson and the Wilson brothers.
