According to TRM Labs' analysis, between February 12 and August 11, a group running a scam using fake AI crypto arbitrage bot tutorials tricked 224 victims into deploying and funding malicious smart contracts, stealing a total of 274.60 ETH. The stolen funds were funneled into six attacker-controlled addresses, valued at approximately $517,000 at the time of transfer, with a median loss of 1 ETH per victim. TRM identified nine highly similar YouTube tutorials, all claiming to teach users how to build arbitrage bots using Claude, directing them to attacker-controlled websites that partially mimic Remix. One method involved replacing the code pasted by users in the background with malicious contracts provided by the attackers, redirecting funds to their addresses.
