European customers typically receive Saudi crude oil through long-term contracts to ensure stable monthly supplies, but these supplies will not be delivered next month. Last week, Saudi Arabia was forced to shut down its East-West pipeline after it was attacked by drones. An informed source stated on Wednesday that the pipeline is expected to partially resume operations within a few days and fully recover within six weeks. European refineries usually extract Saudi crude oil from the Sidikri Port in the Suez Bay of the Mediterranean in Egypt, which is connected to the Red Sea via the pipeline. The pipeline shutdown has led some Aramco customers to engage in panic buying. Since Friday, Poland's Orlen SA has issued more than 10 tenders in a rush to secure alternative supply sources.
