[The RMB breaks through the 6.7 threshold, industry expects exchange rate to show a 'rise first, then stabilize' trend this year]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports: On September 18, the RMB exchange rate achieved a significant breakthrough today, with both the onshore and offshore RMB spot exchange rates against the US dollar surpassing the 6.70 threshold during intraday trading. Offshore RMB reached an intraday high of 6.6933, while onshore RMB peaked at 6.6964, both marking the highest levels since February 2023.
Regarding the RMB's trajectory for the remainder of the year, Wang Qing, Chief Macro Analyst at Orient Credit Rating, predicts that the RMB exchange rate is likely to maintain a steady yet slightly strong trend in the short term. Moving forward, attention should be paid to changes in China's export growth rate and the impact of adjustments in monetary policies by major overseas economies on the US Dollar Index.
In terms of movement patterns, Wang Qing anticipates that the RMB will generally exhibit an inverse correlation with the US dollar, with relatively small fluctuations. 'It is expected that the core fluctuation range of the RMB exchange rate will be between 6.7 and 6.9 before the end of the year. For the full year, the RMB exchange rate may follow a pattern of "rising first, then stabilizing."' (Jin10)
