Iranian Parliament Speaker Calibaf recently posted the "Strait Taylor equation" on social platform X, mocking the Federal Reserve's interest rate hike. He wrote, 'See if raising interest rates can open up SOH (i.e. the Strait of Hormuz), or produce a barrel of oil.' 'You can't use 25 basis points to open up a throat.' 'This is SOH risk premium, and it's set by us.'. A few hours after the post was published, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points as scheduled. This is Iran's brilliant political propaganda, "said Chris Boshan, Chief Market Analyst at IG Group. Last month, Calibaf released a picture with the words "Make America Hungry Again," which is an adaptation of Trump's slogan "Make America Great Again," accompanied by data on food shortages and hunger in the United States. He said, "You can't cover up failure with false statements." Senior researcher at the Washington International Policy Center, Negal Motavasi, said that what Kalibav wants to express is that the Fed's interest rate hike cannot reopen the Strait of Hormuz, nor can it make up for the disrupted oil supply. She pointed out that the revised "Taylor rule" by Kalibov added the Strait of Hormuz and the Strait of Mandeb to the formula that originally focused mainly on inflation and economic output. He borrowed the policy language of the Federal Reserve to try to explain that the economic costs caused by war depend in part on maritime security, which is an area where Iran can exert influence. Motawasi believes that this is more about emphasizing what kind of economic leverage Iran has, rather than seriously proposing a new interest rate setting method. She also pointed out that the release time is also important: Kalibov released this chart on the occasion of the Federal Reserve announcing a 25 basis point interest rate hike. He has also released content on financial markets multiple times before, one of the purposes of which is to make the American people more intuitively feel the economic costs of war through prices, markets, and monetary policies.
