MetaMask Introduces Transaction Result 'Lock' Feature to Prevent Red Pill Attacks

According to the MetaMask blog, MetaMask has launched a new security feature called Added Protection in browser extension v13.45, designed to prevent Red Pill attacks in Ethereum and EVM applications. This feature simulates the execution of a transaction initiated by the user through a DApp before it is processed and 'locks' the simulation result as a condition that the transaction must meet. If the actual on-chain execution result differs from the preview (e.g., a malicious contract appears 'harmless' during the preview but attempts to transfer assets during actual execution), the transaction will automatically roll back, ensuring users only lose network gas fees without losing funds. This feature is enabled by default, but users can manually disable it on the confirmation page. It currently supports 13 EVM networks with smart account (EIP-7702) compatibility, and will be rolled out to mobile platforms in the future.
