[Japan's Financial Services Agency Focuses on Exchanges Steering Users Toward High-Spread 'Sales Platforms,' Plans to Discuss UI Design with Industry]
According to a report by CoinPost, Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) raised concerns during a July 15 opinion exchange meeting with the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association. The FSA noted that exchanges offering both 'sales platforms' and 'trading platforms' may be steering users toward the more profitable sales platforms. On sales platforms, the platform acts as the counterparty and earns through spreads, whereas trading platforms match users with each other, charging only transaction fees. Citing the customer best interest obligation set to take effect in November 2024, the FSA stated it will continue discussions with industry players regarding UI design that directs users and self-regulatory rules.
