[Ten Departments: Accelerate the Empowerment of Drug Development with New Technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing, Explore New Models for Drug and Device Production such as Extreme Manufacturing and Space Pharmaceuticals]
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and eight other departments jointly released the '15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry' today. The plan proposes accelerating the deployment of cutting-edge technologies and products. It emphasizes strengthening interdisciplinary integration and the supply of advanced technologies, supporting collaborative efforts among pharmaceutical industry enterprises, universities, research institutions, and medical organizations.
Efforts will be made to accelerate the empowerment of drug development with new technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, supercomputing, and computational medicine, while exploring new models for drug and device production, including extreme manufacturing, space pharmaceuticals, and biomanufacturing. The plan aims to deepen the application of frontier technologies such as gene editing, molecular precision delivery, cell programming and regulation, advanced omics, and next-generation brain-computer interfaces.
Key breakthroughs are targeted in areas such as synthetic artificial life systems, organoids and organ chips, universal cell therapies, complex regenerative organs, integrated diagnostic and therapeutic radioactive drugs, and xenotransplantation organs, fostering the development of several new growth points.
