[Amazon Joins AI Safety Discussion, Calls for Rigorous Testing Before Model Release]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on September 18, Amazon stated that artificial intelligence models should only be released after undergoing rigorous testing. Following calls from several top AI labs to slow down development due to safety vulnerabilities, the company has also joined the discussion on the pace of AI development.
'We do not believe that progress and safety are mutually exclusive,' Amazon spokesperson Tom Parnell said in an email. 'Models should only be released when they are ready and can be used safely, which requires rigorous testing and robust safeguards. If we fail to achieve this collectively, there will be risks. We believe that as an industry, in collaboration with governments, we can jointly establish appropriate protective measures.'
Amazon is a partner and investor in several leading AI companies, including OpenAI and Anthropic PBC. Executives from these companies have already called for slowing down the development of cutting-edge AI to assess the safety of this technology.
