Column, a fintech company holding a nationwide U.S. banking license and focused on providing API services, has launched four new stablecoin-based products:
- Native stablecoin banking infrastructure (natively supports USDC and USDT, with stablecoin addresses and bank accounts on the same ledger)
- Self-built card processing system (claims you can build a credit card product with just three API calls)
- Accounts and cards for global users (offering USD or local currency accounts and cards to non-U.S. users)
- Multi-currency accounts, local payments, and instant forex (available in 180+ countries and supports 130+ currencies)
Sounds pretty groundbreaking, very much like the kind of business many crypto companies aspire to build...
Column itself is quite interesting—it's never taken traditional VC/PE funding. The company claims to be 100% owned by its founders and employees, relying on founder capital and operating profits for growth.
The founder of this company was previously the co-founder and CTO of Plaid. In 2021, they spent $50 million to acquire Northern California National Bank, with the funds coming from the founder selling part of their Plaid shares.
