[Deutsche Bank: This Fed rate hike cycle may be the shallowest in modern history]
Golden Finance reported on September 17 that Deutsche Bank, in its latest report reviewing past Federal Reserve rate hike cycles, pointed out that markets often underestimate the ultimate tightening magnitude at the start of a rate hike cycle. Currently, the market has priced in expectations for the Fed to raise rates three more times by mid-next year. If the current market pricing is accurate, this rate hike cycle could ultimately become the shallowest in modern history.
Deutsche Bank's statistics show that historical Fed rate hike cycles have lasted an average of 22 months, with a median duration of 15 months. The cumulative tightening magnitude averaged 478 basis points, with a median of 313 basis points. The smallest recorded cycle was the 1986-1987 rate hike cycle, during which the Fed raised rates four times for a total of only 137 basis points.
