[South Korean Police Transfer 18 Polymarket Users, Total Betting Amount Involved Approximately 17.6 Billion KRW] Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on September 17, according to Asia Economy, the Cyber Investigation Unit of the Gangwon Police Agency in South Korea has filed cases against 26 users of the overseas prediction market platform Polymarket, transferring 18 of them to the prosecution. The total betting amount involved is approximately 17.6 billion KRW, with the highest individual amount reaching about 5.7 billion KRW. Police believe that users placed bets on uncertain event outcomes using crypto assets, which constitutes illegal gambling. The users argue that Polymarket employs an order book trading system and supports closing positions before expiration, and therefore should be considered a crypto asset derivatives market. South Korean authorities had previously decided to block access to the platform, and subsequent legal disputes will focus on whether its trading structure should be classified as gambling or derivatives investment.
