Checked out some key points from Circle CTO Nikhil Chandhok's interview with Bankless about the development of the Arc chain: - In the first few months, Arc will focus on two main priorities: privacy and agents. - On the privacy side, they’re developing an optional privacy feature that allows users to hide balances and transaction details while selectively disclosing information. This will be implemented using TEE, essentially a protected hardware enclave, ensuring that even Circle and Arc validators cannot access the content. - On the agent side, they’re pushing forward with the Agent Stack, providing strategy-controlled wallets and infrastructure for agents, enabling them to discover and pay for services. The goal is to make agents more autonomous. The next step is to make these agents resemble independent economic actors, with verifiable identities, histories, and reputation systems. Ultimately, this will enable credit systems where agents can prove their work, earn money, hire other agents, or borrow based on their track records. - Circle’s CTO mentioned that they don’t want Arc to simply attract USDC, DeFi, and users from Ethereum. “Shifting existing activity from Ethereum to Arc won’t actually expand Circle’s market.” Instead, they’re betting on creating markets that don’t currently exist: agents paying and hiring each other, machine-scale credit, global stablecoin forex, tokenized assets reaching new buyers, and institutional activities that will never move to fully public ledgers. A comparison of development strategies for several highly similar “stablecoin chains”: - Tempo is attacking stablecoin payments and agent commerce/a2a payments from a more payment infrastructure-focused angle; - Plasma is pushing further into the consumer space with Plasma One; - Arc is targeting institutional markets on one side and open crypto on the other, betting on autonomous agents becoming a whole new category of economic participants (which actually overlaps quite a bit with Tempo).
