Backpack has been actively building lately. On September 10, they launched INTC, SKHY, GOOGL, and META, and by September 15, they added AMZN and AMD. Meanwhile, tokenized stocks on Solana continue to expand, with assets like FLY, PTN, SCHH, FLWS, DKNG, and WEN gradually going live. On the surface, it looks like they’re just adding tickers. But in reality, Backpack is separating trading hours and stock ownership into two distinct dimensions. The problem with traditional U.S. stocks isn’t just that they can only be traded during fixed hours. The bigger issue is this: what you own is a stock in a traditional brokerage account, and trading, clearing, custody, and transfers are all constrained by the time and infrastructure of traditional markets. What Backpack is doing now is creating a different setup: real stock ownership remains within the securities system; when on-chain liquidity is needed, the corresponding asset is converted into tokenized securities on Solana. For example, assets like NKE, AMC, and HTZ issued by Backpack Securities support 24/7 on-chain trading and can be redeemed 1:1 for the corresponding real stocks. This creates an effect that traditional brokers have struggled to achieve: the ownership of U.S. stocks remains tied to traditional finance, but their "trading hours" start to align with crypto. For instance, if a company releases earnings after the U.S. stock market closes, traditional markets have to wait until the next opening to trade; But the corresponding tokenized securities can continue trading on-chain. Micron’s MU is a case Backpack uses to demonstrate this scenario—when earnings were announced after Nasdaq had closed, MU on-chain could still be traded. So what Backpack is really trying to solve might be a different question: if stocks could eventually become 24/7, composable, and flow across on-chain applications like crypto, what would happen to the boundaries of traditional securities markets? It’s still early days for this path. But once stocks can simultaneously enter wallets, DEXs, DeFi, Perps, and even on-chain native trading platforms like http://Pump.fun, RWA (Real World Assets) won’t just be about turning stocks into tokens. It will start to change the way stocks themselves are traded. @Backpack Backpack
