On Sept 15 the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on rising instability in the Bab el‑Mandeb. A UN Assistant Secretary‑General reported that fighting on Yemen’s west coast has escalated in recent days and that tensions in the Bab el‑Mandeb and the Strait of Hormuz remain high. The UN warned further escalation could seriously affect international peace and security, global energy markets, food security and multiple national economies. The UN urged restraint and constructive participation in UN‑led political efforts to resolve the Yemen conflict. The meeting was requested by Bahrain, Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia and the UK.(金十)
