The European Central Bank is recruiting merchants to participate in the digital euro pilot, with plans to launch it in 2027

The European Central Bank (ECB) is recruiting e-commerce and mobile commerce merchants to participate in the digital euro pilot. The pilot program will be launched in the second half of 2027 and will last for 12 months. Pilot the use of a test currency similar to the digital euro but without legal tender status to test online and offline payments, in preparation for the issuance of the digital euro in 2029. ECB seeks to address the growing usage of stablecoins in the European dollar by expanding merchant acceptance and reducing payment fees. (Source: European Central Bank)
