**[Betting Big on the Fed's "Inability to Tighten," Asset Management Giant Amundi Gradually Buys U.S. Treasuries]**
Odaily Planet Daily News: Amid surging international oil prices breaking $100 and a global bond market slump, Europe's largest asset manager is bucking the trend by increasing its holdings of 2-year U.S. Treasuries. Some investors worry that the Federal Reserve may once again fall "behind the curve" in its fight against inflation, but the situation could soon undergo a significant shift.
Amundi SA, the European asset management giant with $2.8 trillion in assets, is decisively adjusting its strategy and has begun gradually purchasing 2-year U.S. Treasuries to hedge against systemic risks of a potential U.S. economic stagnation caused by the shock of high oil prices. While the market is gripped by panic over monetary tightening, Amundi sees an opportunity for contrarian positioning.
Nicolas Dahan, Senior Portfolio Manager for Global Bonds and FX at Amundi, pointed out that although the U.S. economy currently shows some resilience, persistently high energy prices and soaring borrowing costs are becoming undeniable growth risks.
