According to Digitalasset, South Korea's People Power Party has strongly opposed the government's push to introduce a central bank digital currency (CBDC) before improving laws and institutional measures to ensure public peace of mind. The party leader, Jang Dong-hyeok, believes that the scope of transaction tracking, the use of funds, and whether usage periods could be controlled should be clarified first, as well as whether citizens' right to choose their currency can be guaranteed. The Bank of Korea is advancing CBDC through the pilot project 'Han River Plan,' having completed the first phase of testing from April to June last year, and is now moving forward with the second phase of testing.
