[Chainflip Attacked, 736,442 USDT Stolen, Expected to Resume Around Monday]
Odaily Planet Daily News: Cross-chain protocol Chainflip disclosed that an attack targeting Tron USDT occurred yesterday. It has been confirmed that 736,442.17 USDT was stolen through six unauthorized transactions. Additionally, 115,654.41 USDT from user exchanges remains in the vault due to failed payments, while other funds were not affected.
Chainflip stated that the attacker exploited a vulnerability in the Tron transaction memo mechanism, attaching a custom memo to transactions already signed by validators. This caused the system to recognize the same deposit as separate exchanges and issue refunds repeatedly, ultimately leading to duplicate payments. The attacker carried out eight operations over approximately 90 minutes, gradually increasing the amounts involved.
Chainflip announced that a fix has been implemented and the stolen funds have been flagged with relevant institutions in an attempt to recover them. Operations are expected to resume as early as Monday, and the platform will take responsibility for compensating affected users for their losses.
