Amp Removes Platform Fees: Run Coding Agent for Free with Your Own ChatGPT and Computer

Beating AI News Flash: Amp has launched a free Hobby tier. Amp is a Coding Agent company spun off from Sourcegraph, offering products similar to Claude Code and Codex, enabling AI to read code, modify code, execute commands, and run tests autonomously. Now, users can use Amp for free with their own computer and a ChatGPT subscription or model API key, without paying additional monthly fees or BYOK token charges.
In July this year, Amp introduced a subscription model requiring users to pay at least $20 per month for the Megawatt tier to integrate their ChatGPT subscription into Amp. Even for BYOK (Bring Your Own Key), where users utilized their own model keys, Amp imposed extra token fees and restrictions. Both of these requirements have now been removed. However, users are still responsible for the ChatGPT subscription fees or the costs associated with the model API itself.
Amp also offers a remote cloud computer product called Orb, which provides an isolated environment for each task. Code and development tools are stored within Orb, allowing the Agent to continue working even after the user's computer is turned off, and enabling multiple tasks to run simultaneously. Orb remains usage-based and requires payment; users who prefer not to pay can opt to run Amp directly on their own computer.
Additionally, Amp is expanding its BYOK compatibility. Paid users can already integrate OpenRouter, Amazon Bedrock, Azure Foundry, Ollama Cloud, and custom model APIs, and this functionality will soon be available to all users. [Original Link]
