Dario calls for AI to slow down, and first up is OpenAI slowing down its IPO plans. In an exclusive interview with *Fortune* magazine, Sam said in the latest issue of *sa* that considering the current dynamics in AI safety, going public right now is 'not wise,' and the company doesn’t feel pressured to do so.
He further stated that OpenAI will only move forward with its IPO plans when both the business itself and the external societal environment are ready. When pressed on whether an IPO is completely off the table for 2026, Altman responded clearly: 'I would say, not 2026.' This essentially means OpenAI’s IPO won’t happen until at least 2027.
On safety issues, Altman used unusually strong language. He said, 'I think there’s a 10% chance by the end of this decade that AI could kill everyone, and that’s unacceptable.' He also pointed out that OpenAI and other leading AI companies might soon announce a collective agreement to slow down the pace of AI development.
With OpenAI explicitly slowing down its IPO plans, will Anthropic follow suit?
