[Altman Says OpenAI Will Not Go Public in 2026] Golden Finance reported on September 12 local time that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that OpenAI will not conduct an initial public offering (IPO) in 2026. In an interview with *Fortune* magazine, he said that given the current developments surrounding artificial intelligence safety issues, "now is not the right time to go public," and the company is not under pressure to pursue an IPO at the moment. Altman noted that rather than advancing an IPO, OpenAI has a significant amount of work to complete, including meeting requirements related to AI safety and alignment, as well as exploring how the industry can collaborate with governments. Altman also hinted that OpenAI and other leading AI companies may be close to reaching an agreement to slow down the pace of AI development and jointly address safety risks. On the same day, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei also called on AI companies to adopt a more cautious approach to model development and suggested slowing down the pace of enhancing AI model capabilities. Altman later responded, agreeing that it is necessary to control the pace of cutting-edge AI development, which has been one of the key topics of internal discussions at OpenAI in recent weeks.
