Golden Finance reported on September 12 that at the results release conference of the 2026 Pujiang Innovation Forum on September 11, Zhong Wulü, Chief Engineer of China Fusion Energy Co., Ltd. (referred to as 'China Fusion'), stated that global fusion research is currently accelerating toward the 'burning' phase. Achieving deuterium-tritium fusion burning plasma operation and transitioning to high-gain, sustained burning fusion plasma still requires overcoming fundamental scientific barriers: relying on fusion-generated alpha particles to maintain the plasma at temperatures of hundreds of millions of degrees, thereby entering a long-term self-sustaining, stable, and controllable 'burning' state. 'Only by clarifying the scientific issues can we determine the engineering direction,' Zhong said. China Fusion is fully advancing the development of the world's first high-temperature superconducting strong-field steady-state burning experimental platform—China Circulator No. 4—to provide critical support in addressing this scientific challenge.
