[US CFTC Launches 3 New Polymarket Insider Trading Investigations Involving Biden Pardon, Iran War, and Google]
BlockBeats News, September 12 – The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has secretly approved at least three insider trading investigations related to Polymarket transactions, involving contracts on Biden pardons, the Iran war, and Google-related events. The investigation documents were obtained by WIRED through the Freedom of Information Act.
CFTC Chairman Michael Selig approved the investigation into the Biden pardon-related contract in May, following a trader who reportedly profited over $300,000 in the related market. That same month, the CFTC also approved an investigation into the Iran war contract, after a group of suspicious accounts was revealed to have profited $2.4 million with an approximate 98% win rate.
In July, the CFTC initiated a further investigation into Google-related Polymarket contracts, focusing on individuals who may have traded using non-public information about Google’s 2025 search rankings. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York is also conducting a parallel investigation.
It is currently unclear whether the accounts in question are connected to individuals previously under investigation. Polymarket stated that the company will refer the relevant matters to law enforcement and cooperate with the investigations. As prediction markets expand rapidly, U.S. regulators are significantly intensifying scrutiny of insider trading and market manipulation. [Original Link]
