[U.S. Official: Next Round of Israel-Lebanon Talks Postponed to October]
According to a report by Golden Finance, on September 12, a U.S. State Department official stated that the next round of talks between Israel and Lebanon, mediated by the United States, has been postponed to next month. The official noted that the talks, originally scheduled to take place in Rome next week, have been rescheduled for October. Ambassadors from both countries will still meet at the U.S. State Department to discuss the implementation of the framework agreement, which aims to disarm Hezbollah and facilitate the phased withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces from southern Lebanon.
An Israeli official attributed the delay to scheduling conflicts. However, this change indicates that, with Israel's elections approaching and Hezbollah rejecting the arrangements, the momentum for negotiations has slowed.
A Lebanese official stated that indiscriminate strikes by the Israel Defense Forces in southern Lebanon are undermining Beirut's efforts to disarm Hezbollah. Meanwhile, Jerusalem believes that the Lebanese Armed Forces currently lack the capability to complete this task.
