Back in 2021 I used to write ELI5 content of DeFi protocols, and my account blew up with 30k new followers every month for like half a year. Been fewer "threads" over the years, but here's one. A new project I am watching is called @standard_rsv, let me break it down simply:
Remember OHM, the "decentralized reserve currency" that hit $4B mcap in the 2021 cycle, then crashed 98% once bond inflows dried up?
Standard Reserve is basically the same core idea, an onchain central bank with its own currency, but rebuilt so the thing that killed OHM (fixed APY printing regardless of demand) can't happen here.
Imagine a robot central bank that only does one job: watch ETH flow in and out of one pool, then react automatically. No committee, no DAO vote, just code.
ETH comes in → the bank prints more STANDARD and buys gold as backup.
ETH goes out → printing slows down, and the bank buys back + burns STANDARD.
You become a "banker" by holding a Charter NFT (1,000 free at genesis). Each Charter starts with 1 branch, can grow to 10. Branches = your slice of the daily STANDARD pie.
Want more branches? Buy licenses with STANDARD, and that STANDARD gets burned forever.
Want to cash out? You retire a branch to unlock your earnings, but there's an exit fee attached.
Okay, but what if there's a bank run?
The exit fee is dynamic, near zero on a quiet day, but it spikes hard when lots of people try to leave at once. On top of that, half of every exit fee gets burned permanently, so a panic exit doesn't just cost you more, it shrinks total supply too.
The system is designed so a bank run makes staying in relatively more attractive while punishing the rush to the exit.
This is Olympus DAO's old pitch, minus the fixed APY that caused endless dilution.
No token live yet. Genesis Charter whitelist is being sorted now, mint expected September 14.
And the good news is that there are 650 waitlist spots left.
NFA, DYOR, but worth watching.
PS! I wish I could say that this post was sponsored, but it's not. But by sharing this, I hope to come on the waitlist.
And why am I so interested in this? If you remember back 5 years ago how much OHM and TIME printed, then this should be a no-brainer. It's an experiment. Will it work? Let's see, but I love new ideas, and it's worth trying.
Send it.
PS2: for those of you who like visual content, this was a really good breakdown on how the protocol works: https://x.com/heyjxck_/status/2097627422111727626(Route 2 FI)
