[U.S. Senator: Presidents and Officials Should Be Prohibited from Profiting from Cryptocurrencies] According to a report by Bitcoin.com News, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand stated on August 23 that Congress should prohibit presidents, their spouses, and senior officials from issuing, initiating, or profiting from cryptocurrencies during their terms in office. She proposed incorporating this ethical ban into the Digital Asset Market Structure Act. A survey revealed that 63% of respondents believe that cryptocurrency-related profits by Trump and his family are inappropriate. In his annual disclosure, Trump revealed that cryptocurrency-related income exceeded $1.4 billion in 2025. The controversy has extended to the Senate's Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which is scheduled for its first procedural vote in the Senate on September 15. Kirsten Gillibrand stated that she would not vote in favor of allowing presidents to profit from public office with taxpayer support.
