[David Sacks Calls for Anthropic IPO to Be Paused Until 'Whistleblower' Allegations Are Investigated]
On September 11, White House tech advisor and co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, David Sacks, posted a statement mocking Anthropic, saying that since a 'whistleblower' has emerged, Anthropic's IPO 'should obviously be paused' until the relevant claims are thoroughly investigated. The White House website still lists Sacks as the co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
The 'whistleblower' he referred to is Jacob Coxon, a researcher at Anthropic who recently resigned. Coxon accused Anthropic and OpenAI of racing to develop self-improving superintelligence, recklessly gambling with human safety. Axios recently revealed that Coxon resigned even though his equity was set to vest in about two months, stating that he no longer had the motivation to inflate Anthropic’s valuation.
This statement directly hits Anthropic at its most sensitive point. The company has already secretly filed IPO documents, with market expectations estimating its valuation could reach approximately $2 trillion. Sacks and Anthropic have long clashed over AI regulation, with Sacks accusing Anthropic of leveraging safety risks to push for regulation, creating 'regulatory capture'; Anthropic has denied these claims.
Sacks’ latest post appears to be more of a public jab, as there is currently no evidence that U.S. regulatory agencies have initiated procedures to pause Anthropic’s IPO as a result.
