[Microsoft Allegedly Losing Business Due to Computing Power Shortages, Plans to Expand Data Center Capacity by Over Threefold] According to a report by Golden Finance on September 11, insiders revealed that Microsoft (MSFT.O) plans to significantly expand its data center capacity, with global data center capacity expected to exceed 38 gigawatts by 2032, more than tripling from the current approximately 12 gigawatts. This plan aims to address the computing power shortages caused by the rapid growth of AI and cloud businesses in recent years. Previously, Microsoft had to decline some AI and cloud service business due to insufficient capacity. Insiders stated that the roadmap includes both Microsoft-owned and leased data centers but excludes computing resources rented from "new cloud service providers" like CoreWeave. The plan may still be adjusted based on customer demand and technological changes. Microsoft's latest fiscal year capital expenditure reached $145 billion, and analysts predict spending will continue to grow in the coming years. The report noted that Microsoft's earlier suspension of some data center construction led to limited computing power supply, causing some customers to turn to competitors. Documents show that Microsoft had restricted new cloud service subscriptions in key regions of the U.S. and Europe. Microsoft stated it is accelerating data center construction.
