[Deepfake Cryptocurrency Theft Suspect Arrested in Thailand, Involved in Over 4.7 Million USDT Case]
According to Golden Finance, on September 9, the Third Division of the Thai Immigration Bureau's investigation team arrested a Chinese citizen, Xin Zhang (30 years old). The suspect is accused of developing Deepfake face-swapping software to impersonate victims and steal cryptocurrency, with the case involving over 4.707 million USDT (approximately 33 million RMB / 162 million Thai Baht).
Chinese authorities issued an arrest warrant for him in 2025. The suspect, along with at least three accomplices, allegedly hacked into victims' OKX accounts and mobile phone data, used self-developed face-swapping technology to impersonate victims to report lost SIM cards and request replacements, obtained OTP verification codes, and took control of the accounts, transferring all assets within seconds. The suspect had previously evaded prosecution but was arrested after entering Thailand on a tourist visa.
