I read the original report and finally figured out how hacker groups have been able to steal users' exchange accounts and misappropriate funds over the past few years. The arrested suspects used AI face-swapping technology to deceive mobile carriers by falsely reporting lost SIM cards and applying for replacements. After obtaining the exchange users' SIM cards, they used SMS + facial recognition to appeal and regain access to the users' exchange accounts. These individuals once used similar methods, working with at least three accomplices, to hack into a victim's OKX account and transfer 4.707 million USDT stablecoins out of the exchange. Nowadays, many exchanges have strengthened their security and risk controls, likely due to these terrible incidents.
