[Blockchain Association and CCI File Injunction to Halt Illinois' 0.2% Digital Asset Transaction Tax]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the Blockchain Association and the Crypto Council for Innovation (CCI) have filed a preliminary injunction with the Sangamon County Circuit Court in Illinois, seeking to halt the 0.2% digital asset transaction tax set to take effect on January 1, 2027, during the course of judicial proceedings. The tax law applies to crypto entities established in Illinois or providing services to Illinois residents with annual gross revenues exceeding $100,000. The two lobbying organizations had previously filed a lawsuit against Illinois, arguing in conjunction with the Chamber of Digital Commerce that the legislation violates the federal Internet Tax Freedom Act as well as the Due Process and Commerce Clauses of the U.S. Constitution.
