Mexican federal prosecutors, the Navy, and Puebla state police recently raided a location in Tepeyahualco, seizing around 300 cryptocurrency mining devices, along with transformers, medium-voltage terminals, and satellite network equipment. Investigations revealed that the mining operation allegedly stole electricity from hydroelectric facilities powered by the Necaxa Dam. Those involved could face charges of electricity theft. Local media reported that the seized equipment consisted of GPUs, likely used to mine cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, which rely heavily on graphics cards. The possibility of money laundering has not been ruled out, and investigators are tracing the source of funds for the equipment and whether the mining proceeds are linked to illicit activities.
