He also called out the top companies behind ChatGPT and Claude, saying they’re basically gambling with humanity’s fate. A lot of people inside these companies aren’t taking this issue seriously. Even though Anthropic (the company behind Claude) is aware of the risks, they believe other AI companies won’t hit the brakes, so they feel like they have to race to the finish line first, even knowing the dangers. Once AI models can improve themselves, it’ll be nearly impossible for humans to stop them. He told reporters that if we follow the most aggressive development path, things could spiral out of control by the end of next year. And his colleagues are already using terms like ‘endgame’ and ‘critical moment,’ preparing for the possibility of total loss of control.
